These seats are retiring. AI can't fill them.
Most career advice about AI asks which jobs it will take. This board asks the opposite question: which seats are emptying out on their own, because the people in them are retiring, and sit near the bottom of every measure of what AI can do?
Six seats made the board. Every one of them passes three tests:
- Most of the openings are replacement, not growth. Someone is leaving the seat.
- The work is mostly physical. Each seat scores below the median occupation on Microsoft Research's AI applicability ranking.
- The door costs less than a four-year degree. An apprenticeship, a certificate, or a two-year program gets you in.
Even McKinsey's newest forecast, the one that made headlines for AI displacement, says the U.S. will likely have more jobs in 2035 than today and fewer workers to fill them, because the population is aging. That's this board.
