The Gap That Created the Rung
- The physical and digital infrastructure worlds have run on separate tracks for twenty years. Electricians and lineworkers owned the physical layer. Network engineers and software developers owned the logical layer. The two rarely needed to work in the same place at the same time.
- That separation is dissolving at exactly the moment when the physical layer is being instrumented at a scale the industry has never attempted before. 119 million smart meters live in the US right now. The trades built this country’s physical infrastructure and got undervalued for it.
